Bio-transformation of Antibiotics

Bio-transformation   of  Antibiotics

by Dimple chandravanshi

In recent times if there has been an emergence in the production of new and improved antibiotics by the microbial transformation of existing compounds. the objectives is the development of modified antibiotics with improve effectiveness reduced toxicity wider antimicrobial spectrum improve oral absorption decreased development of resistance or lower energic affects.

in most cases any transformation steps posses a partial or incomplete in activation of the antibiotic. the addition of inhibitors or modified precursors to be medium may result in the synthesis of altered antibiotics via control biosythesis .

for ex. in the presence of cis-4-methyl prolin in streptomyces paruvlvs produces to new actinomycins in which prolin is replaced by this prolin analogue. new compounds have been found when nutrients blocked in the synthesis of a a particular antibiotic where used.

if u improve antibiotic have been isolated after mutational synthesis of which only 5-episisomicion has proved of sufficient utility to undergo clinical trials.
