Energy Harvesting
-------In
recent development of the wireless micro sensors networks they are driven by
miniaturized lithium ion batteries which are efficient but exhaustible,
recharging of such batteries is not feasible because the nodes are remotely
mounted or embedded in a system.
In a
miniaturized system like a wireless micro sensor or any other device the
battery causes an important percentage of the weight and volume therefor
decreasing the efficiency and the compactness of the system.
These large
number of discarded batteries causing a severe environment impact. Energy
harvesting is a technology that converts the excess energy available in an
environment into usable energy for low power electronics.
There are
several sources of ambient energy for harvesting like solar, thermal, kinetic
vibration etc. solar energy limits the operation in the presence of sunlight
and also the solar cells in use are bulky and difficult to implement at micro
level
Thermal
energy is also not good option while dealing with micro devices. Vibration
energy is a very promising and unending source of energy. They are random
vibrations which are having different amplitudes and frequency that are freely
available everywhere.
Energy
harvesting devices converting ambient energy into electrical energy have
attached much interest in both the military and commercial sectors. Some
systems convert motion such as that of ocean waves, into electricity to be used
by oceanographic monitoring sensors for autonomous operation.
